Yet Again! Windows 10 April 2018 Update Fails on These Toshiba SSDs

Here we go again when Windows 10 2018 update is already causing issues on computers with Intel SSD. Microsoft recently acknowledges UEFI failure on Intel solid state drive and we found Intel 600p series SSD fails to install the Update (system freeze, BSOD) but now there are more to the list. Microsoft confirmed blocking Windows 10 update 2018 update on some of the Toshiba SSD including Toshiba XG4 and XG5 and BG3 SSDs (Via ComputerWorld)

So until the issue is being fixed it is expected in the end of Q2 2018 (June Patch update) Microsoft and OEM partners will start analyzing and block computers with mentioned Toshiba SSDs. The main reason behind blocking of Windows 10 April 2018 update is that if computers with mentioned SSD will install it it will cause many issues including random blue screen of death, system freeze and an ability to boot the operating system.

Devices with Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series solid state disk (SSD) drives may experience degraded battery life after upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

After upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update, select devices with Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series solid state disk (SSD) drives may exhibit lower battery life.

Microsoft is working with OEM partners and Toshiba to identify and block devices with Toshiba XG5 Series or Toshiba BG3 Series solid state disk (SSD) from installing the April 2018 Update due to a known incompatibility that may cause battery performance issues.

Devices with Intel SSD 600p Series or Intel SSD Pro 6000p Series may crash and enter a UEFI screen after reboot when upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

When attempting to upgrade to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, select devices with Intel SSD 600p Series or Intel SSD Pro 6000p Series may crash and enter a UEFI screen after reboot.

Microsoft is working with OEM partners and Intel to identify and block devices with Intel SSD 600p Series or Intel SSD Pro 6000p Series from installing the April 2018 Update due to a known incompatibility that may cause performance and stability issues. If you have encountered this issue, follow the steps to reinstall the previous operating system (Windows 10, version 1709).

If you already installed the update, press the F8 key when Windows starts booting and choose Rollback to an older Windows version in Advanced startup options.

  1. Go to Settings (Press Windows Key+I > Update & Security.
  2. Click on Recovery and under Go back to the previous version of Windows 10, click on Get Started.

If you did a clean installation, you might need the old Windows 10 version 1709 media image file, prepare a bootable media and install the older version as Clean install.
